Experience
- 5+ years of tutoring experience - 4.0 GPA - taken CLEPs, DSSTs, GRE I've instructed mathematics and meteorology at a military ground school, with over 500+ contact hours. I currently am an adjunct professor of mathematics at a local university. I have taken every math class known to man... Calculus I-IV, Geometry, Graph Theory, Ring Theory, Combinatorics... you name it, I've taken it. I help students improve their scores on the SAT, ACT, GRE, CLEP, DSST, etc. I usually teach them the math, chemistry/science side, but also help them in the writing and critical thinking area. As an Airman, I'm expected to demonstrate such concepts when out in the field - I hope to pass along this understanding to my students. As a 'hobby', I tutor students on the side. From personal experience, there appears to be a correlation between how a professor explains concepts to students like of mathematics. This is so important because we need more people who enjoy learning the beauty behind mathematical manipulation and pursue the journey of creating new mathematical ideals. I even tutor students from other classes that aren't in mine! I see my ability to teach students as the metaphor of the rider and the horse: one can always bring a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. The horse must determine for itself whether or not it wants to drink. I also define the potential of a student in the same light: everyone has the seed of potential to become proficient at any subject, but it is up to you on whether you have the discipline and desire to tend to your seed and help it grow into a strong, self-sustaining tree. As with anything, repetition and continuous exposure is a great friend when it comes to learning a subject well. Please let me emphasize that this is not a magical solution, where you will wake up and realize the subject. While some have had those moments (including myself), my approach is more safer, more grounded and more desirable for success. I am more than happy to discuss my tutoring expectations and my plans with the student, if desired. My starting price is $45 an hour, one-on-one. This rate is subject to change when discussing scheduling opportunities (hourly, weekly, monthly, etc.) and the number of students (singular or multiple). I am most known for my Group sessions (2-5 students), and offer a $5 discount per student that is in the class. This works both ways - the client can bring students with them, or I can combine single sessions into one group session. I can accommodate both virtual and online studies. I am also available to discuss other teaching opportunities, such as GRE, SAT, etc.
